Millwood Lodge Reviews

Glenis
Millwood lodge is a welcoming, clean and well equipped home from home. . The beds were extremely comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped. We found the lounge seating a bit tight for eight adults and a bit on the low side for our party of over seventies however we enjoyed socialising around the large table and we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy the outside seating on a couple of warmer days. There is a lack of hanging space in some of the bedrooms too. A couple of minor issues were dealt with quickly by Dave, the very friendly owner. The walkers amongst us found plenty of suitable places locally including Sandscale Haws and the Barrow monument. The description of the property on the website is misleading as it states there are three ground floor and two first floor bedrooms when in fact it is the reverse. Though it didn't cause us any issues it may well be essential to others so should be changed. Overall we enjoyed our holiday and would recommend Millwood Lodge to others.

A superbly equipped house for our three generation family Christmas . The friendly helpful owner David lives nearby, and his wife had left us a tin of delicious homemade gingerbread a nice touch. The lovely home was warm, comfortable and very well equipped with 5 lovely en suite bedrooms and we were really impressed with all the beautiful Christmas decorations, with three Christmas trees and the lounge and dining room beautifully decorated. Lovely log burner as well in the lounge with a good supply of logs . Dog friendly is a bonus for our two dogs, with Roan Head beach nearby which they both loved so Im sure we will all return in the future . Celia and Tony

We had a wonderful stay at Millwood Lodge and would definitely stay again. We were two families, with a grandparent, parents and children, and we found it had all we needed for our stay over New Year. The house is warm despite much being single glazed, comfortable, well equipped and has a friendly and approachable host in David who was over quickly to assist when we had a minor issue with the door key. We absolutely loved the festive decor. We had a wonderful time, thank you.

Millwood Lodge was an amazing place to stay for our holiday. It was clean, and had everything there for a fantastic stay. The homemade ginger bread was delicious. We would highly recommend Millwood Lodge.
This is a beautiful property, warm and well presented. It entirely suited the needs for a family gathering. All rooms ensuite , a generous lounge and well equipped kitchen. The location is ideal for coastal exploration and for the Lake District.
What an absolute gem of a property. Everything you could need is catered for. All the bedrooms are spacious and extremely comfy. Having them all ensuite is a bonus. The large dinner table in the conservatory worked perfectly. Plenty of parking too. Dave the owner is a Star. Nothing too much trouble. Even the free digger rides were an unexpected treat! Looking forward to coming back very soon.

We had the best weeklong stay in this beautiful property. There were 10 of us and it was spacious, cozy, clean, the beds were so comfortable. We all slept very well. The kitchen is well supplied with utensils, a large American style fridge, a dishwasher and a large double oven. We had breakfast and dinner every day at the large table in the conservatory and we sat outside on the garden furniture while the kids played football and painted rocks. The property is in the perfect location, away from the hustle and bustle of the more popular tourist destinations like Windermere, Coniston and Keswick, but also close enough to drive to. And just down the road is a large Asda, Tesco and Morrisons as well as takeaway places. If youre thinking of booking this property for your holiday, just do it! You wont regret it

The property is excellent with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing ... The property is excellent with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break, and David was extremely helpful with tips on places to visit locally
We had a great stay at this Airbnb! The host was incredibly helpful and responsive, even going out of their way late at night to make sure we had everything we needed. The house was comfortable and wellsuited for a group, with plenty of parking space available, which was a big plus. The location was also idealits only about an hours drive from Scafell Pike, which worked out perfectly for us. Properties closer to the mountain were much more expensive and often had fewer facilities, so this was a great value. There were plenty of grocery stores and restaurants nearby, and even Uber Eats delivered to us within an hour, which was super convenient after long days out. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would definitely recommend this place to others looking for a convenient and wellhosted stay.

This is a great holiday home. The owners met us on arrival and were very helpful. The house was spotless and really comfortable. Weve been to a few Skyes holiday homes and this was by far the best one. The location was prefect for dog walking and sightseeing as well as trips out into the Lake District as well further a field. The garden is secure and great for a dog to sniff about in. In short we loved it here.

A beautiful lodge full of character in a lovely area great for family get togethers. Immaculately clean and very comfortable beds. Love that every bedroom has its own private bathroom. Stayed twice now and will definitely be returning !
A lovely house, 6 lovely ensuite bedrooms. It has modern, up to date features, however, it is an old property and this should be remembered. All in all we had a thoroughly enjoyable week here. The owner was very friendly and helpful.
We had a great family holiday. David was very accommodating. Loved the cottage and walks around, which was great for the dogs. Would highly recommend.

The owner was very pleasant and helpful,he even received our Tesco order for us as we didn't get to the cottage it time for it's arrival . The cottage itself was very comfortable and well equipped .There was a beautiful victoria sandwich in the kitchen on our arrival which tasted as good as it looks .The pub about a mile away ,The Brown Cow served lovely food at reasonable prices .The portions were huge and the staff were great .We were a party if 10 and there was plenty of room for us all at the dining table .Probably only enough seating for 10 in the lounge ,but there were chairs in the bedrooms and dining chairs which could be used if there had been 12 of us .I would definitely recommend staying in this lovely cottage .
Beautiful place to stay. We stayed for my wife and twin sisters 40th Birthday and we had the best time. The rooms are amazing and there's so much to do nearby. We were greeted by a homemade cake too which was a nice touch.
We really enjoyed out time at Millwood Lodge. Its a perfect accommodation if you have several families coming together as there is an ensuite for each room. I do think the check out time is a little early and cuts your break short so an additional hour would be ideal to allow a more relaxed departure. Id say 5 of the 6 rooms were lovely but one could do with a bit of TLC as its a tad datedtired compared to others. We had good comms from the owner at points but some messages remained not responded to which is a shame as one was asking how we rebook for next year with them. This is honestly the perfect booking for several families to come together for a few daynights with out feeling on top of one another and I would say its a great booking for 12 persons young or old.
We all had a great weekend celebrating my birthday 8 adults 4 children a baby and 2 dogs. It did help the weather was kind to us, when the weather was good we were able to sit outside and use the BBQ also the table in the orangeryconservatory was big enough for us when the weather did turn on the last night. All the bedrooms were comfy and worked well for us and the kitchen was well stocked with crockery, cutlery and pots & pans. If we were to go back to the area we would not hesitate to rebook Millwood Lodge.
Amazing house. Equipped with everything needed for twelve adults. There was no fight over the rooms because all were on suite and tastefully decorated. The sun shone everyday so we were able to sit out some of the time. The lovely walk across the fields to the excellent Brown Cow was a bonus.
This is a fabulous place for a family get together. With 6 bedrooms, all unsuite, there is never a queue for the bathroom. Lovely conservatory to eat in and a very spacious lounge. Our one very minor complaint would be that the sofas in the lounge possibly need updating. TVs everywhere so no arguments there. Closed in garden and situated on a very quiet and little used road. Superb kitchen. Lovely Victoria Sponge waiting for us on our arrival too. Really nice touch. We all agreed we will return next year.
Yvonne
Second stay at this beautiful cottage. Rooms are great with the ensuite in each room. Thanks again for the delicious baked goods.
Excellent house for a family gathering. Lovely brownies on arrival. Nothing too much trouble for the owners. Good central position.
Edith Anne
We had a wonderful stay at Millwood Lodge for my 60th Birthday. We were welcomed by the owner on arrival, and they had baked a very large Victoria Sponge cake. Sadly, I couldn't eat it as I'm lactose intolerant, and the majority of my family are coealics. However, the members of the family who could eat said it was really yummy
We had the most perfect stay at Millwood Lodge. Everything was perfect. The owner was lovely to meet and popped in shortly after we arrived to make sure everything was OK. The whole place was immaculate, large living room and kitchen plus all the bedrooms were perfect each with ensuit. We would like to thank David and Caroline for providing us the best stay and we would definitely book this cottage again.
Neil John
Lovely cottage, big bedrooms and comfy beds. Lounge nice layout, the sofas although they looked nice were not terribly comfortable. Fabulous conservatory, a great place to dine. Couple of small things a bit more cutleryutensils and spare toilet rolls in each of the well appointed bathrooms. TV in every room was good as some of us wanted to watch Strictly and some of us didnt. Overall excellent cottage and would thoroughly recommend. Hosts were there on arrival but otherwise left us alone. Lovely cake left for us as well which was a nice surprise.
Rebecca
We had a fantastic short break with friend, celebrating my partners 50th. The property is stunning and a perfect size for getting together with friends.
Michelle
Millwood Lodge is absolutely beautiful. We booked a stay to celebrate my 'special' birthday and to say that the accommodation made the celebration more special is no understatement. The house is so comfortable and cosy whilst there is plenty room for everyone. So much effort has gone in to every detail throughout the house and every bedroom felt like the master suite. Sitting round that fantastic table in the evening, in the company of my best friends will stay with me forever. I would and have recommended Millwood Lodge to lots of people already and I only hope I get the chance to return soon and not have to wait for 10 more years until my next milestone!!
Pamela
Kitchen equipment poorly stocked for parties of 10 people.
We had a wonderful 3 generation stay at Millwood Lodge with our dogs. All the bedrooms rooms having an ensuite was a bonus. Very well stocked kitchen and delicious cakes, which was a pleasant surprise on our arrival. One of our dogs caused damage to a carpet one night which was mortifying! David was very reassuring and understanding. We would have no hesitation about recommending the house to others.
I loved the stay loved the house It did need a good clean when we were there alot of cobwebs and spiders and hairs but overall lovely stay Didn't appreciate the issue over charging cars especially when we brought the slow charger which barely used electric. We traveled over 91 miles to the lodge and now in 2023 it is something the owner will get more of. Most cars are electric or will soon be elctric. The fact that we paid close to 2k for the weekend just seemed ridiculous that there was an issue with owner over this. Funny how after the owner noticed this the plug socket outside stopped working
An excellent property, spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and fully equipped. A really comfortable space for our group of eleven, with a lovely enclosed garden for our dogs and us to relax.
Caroline
Millwood Lodge is an amazing place to stay. All the rooms are beautifully furnished and each had its own bath or shower room. Very peaceful surroundings and garden. The hosts, David and Caroline, are very welcoming and approachable. They kindly allowed us to stay a few hours more to give my daughter time to feel well enough to travel.
We had an amazing time. Millwood Lodge was a perfect place to stay. The cake was a lovely touch. The house was clean and tidy and we loved all the bedrooms decorated differently. A beautiful place to stay with lots of nice walks right on the door step.
Tamsin
Fabulous week at the start of March for birthday celebration with family including dogs and infant. Everything was top notch including yummy cake! Decor is cosy and whole place was very well set up for entertaining. Will be booking next year loved it!
Yvonne
Beautiful house and area. We booked for a long weekend for a family get together. It was good to have bedrooms downstairs as we had a couple of people in the party that couldnt manage stairs. The bedrooms were comfortable and beautifully decorated. The house was warm and cosy. The kitchen was lovely with everything you needed. The cake that was left for us all was delicious and thanks again for leaving it for us. So good we have booked again for next year for our annual family get together.
A 5 star trip to the lakes! This lodge was everything I expected and so much more. Spent 2 nights with 11 friends for my partners 30th and we were all so chuffed with our stay. The cleanliness was top level, all of the home decor was just absolutely adorable, the beds were SO comfortable havent slept so well in years! Everything was just immaculate and the homemade chocolate cake was absolutely divine and such a lovely touch!! Cannot rave about it all enough. Will definitely be returning, maybe even making it an annual trip as it was just such a nice getaway!
This house was loverly, everything was provided It was a nice relaxing ... This house was loverly, everything was provided It was a nice relaxing weekend, beech not far away, and walks on the same street
Natalie
A beautiful location and the accommodation was perfect the owners couldnt have made us more welcome, with homebaked Christmas shortbread and beautiful Christmas decorations. What a find! Would love to come back in the Summer.
Philippa
The owners could not have been more thoughtful and helpful. They even provided a very large cake completely delicious. Everything was as described and everything worked except for one doorknob, which I'm sure will be working in time for the next visitor! If we need to visit the area again, we would love to return, with a bit more time to explore and to relax we were there for a big party which left little time for either. Thank you very much, Philippa
Fantastic house to have a social gathering . Having an en suite in each room makes a huge difference. House has everything you need except from wardrobe space in a few of the rooms but clean and comfortable and lovely and cozy. Our family of 13 had a fantastic break and would definitely use again .
Jacqui
A warm and spacious cottage with excellent facilities. We were able to enjoy our family party and the 70 year old birthday boy was able to join in the festivities despite being in a wheelchair. We could access the important areas using our portable ramp. The weather was beautiful and the homemade cookies made by Caroline were lovely. Would highly recommend for a large party whatever their ages!!
